Dear Editor:

We are encouraged to see the North Shore News taking initiative in reaching out to diverse communities with its new Chinese language edition newspaper.

As a North Shore community, we collectively play a role in fostering a sense of belonging for all our neighbours, old and new. In a forum on anti-racism held by the society in 2017, we noted that 88 per cent of local North Shore residents who attended the forum would like more opportunities to learn about diversity and inclusion in our communities.

Immigrants to Canada have a long road in their settlement and integration journeys as they learn Canada’s official languages, integrate into local economies, learn to build new ties and ultimately participate in and contribute fully to Canadian society.
Initiatives that help bridge immigrants and newcomers to our North Shore communities are beneficial for all of us.
