The Editor,

Re. "'Ambulance people are wasting our time'" (Letters, tricitynews.com, April 28).

Letter writer Mike Woodhouse should not be endorsing Port Coquitlam Fire Chief Nick Delmonico's directive to city staff to circumvent the established 911 call protocol. Simply put, it places those encountering a serious medical emergency at further risk.

In printing the ill-informed view of Mr. Woodhouse, The Tri-City News has missed an opportunity to use its platform to educate the community on the role of both fire services and BC Ambulance.

While there may well be a requirement for further discussion between the administrative levels of these organizations, I am confident the frontline emergency responders of both agencies are continuing to work together as they always have — with professionalism and collegiality.
