A special treat is watching the moms with baby strollers waving their arms frantically at traffic in a vain attempt to get them to stop. They're standing right on the road with obvious precious cargo as the drivers whiz by blissfully unaware.
Then there are those poor saps trying to get to work in the morning. Who needs coffee to get the blood pumping when you can maximize your adrenaline rush by merely trying to cross a road?
And let's not forget to give a special nod to last summers' spectacle when we witnessed a mother, her son and their Great Dane bravely making it halfway across the street before the car bumper bounces off the boy's knee. Nuts, just winged him - maybe next time.
Finally we have those dark, dismal mornings to offer up to you - definitely not for the faint of heart. Time after time customers arrive at my business to drop off their dog, shaken and scared as they recount their nerve-racking tale of making it to the middle of the crosswalk just to be trapped with both lanes of traffic racing past, drivers only focussed on getting to work downtown on time.
Yes, I've marched up to city hall twice last summer when I first moved to Murray Street to be told that they were aware of the problem and "had a committee working on a solution." I tried to offer a couple of low-cost solutions, such as the cost of installing a flashing light but was politely told of reasons why my ideas couldn't work.
So here we all are with a front row seat to this great show every day, wondering what will have to happen before the city takes effective action. Shudder.
