I wanted to say thank you to a woman I never met.
I was going to the Royal Bank in Port Coquitlam this morning to use the instant teller. When I drove into the parking lot, my front right tire hit the curb, which was under the snow so I couldn't see it. It damaged the rim and my tire blew out - an expense I could hardly afford at this time of year.
While standing in almost ankle-deep slush in runners, I took out the jack then realized it wasn't all there. This was becoming a very unlucky day.
I called a friend and someone came to my rescue within minutes with their jack (by the way, thank you, Deb ). I stood in the slush and pouring sleet and changed my tire. I was soaked from head to toe.
When I was done, I went into the bank to withdraw $40 but I left without my cash and didn't realize it until hours later. I knew it was a long shot but I went back into the bank and asked if anyone had turned it in. Staff said no but they took my name and number and said maybe someone would still turn it in. I really didn't think that would ever happen.
As I walked to my car, a bank staff member came running out. She told me that yes, indeed, someone had turned in my money. I couldn't believe it. I went into the bank, where they confirmed that I did use the instant teller at the time I said and the amount of money I withdrew. They handed over the money.
The bank employees couldn't tell who this woman was due to privacy issues so I offered to leave $10 behind for the next time she came into the bank. I wanted her to enjoy a coffee on me as a thank you. The staff at the bank told me that she was happy to do the right thing and wanted nothing in return.
I wish I could thank her in person. She has no idea that she turned my horrible day into a great one. Thank you to this honest woman. It's nice to know that there are still people who will do the right thing.
I wish her a Merry Christmas and thanks for reminding me that there are still honest people.
