PoCo water and sewer charges unfair for condo owners

The Editor,

I have been complaining to the city of Port Coquitlam for two years now, but to no avail.

This year, as a single senior living in a one-bedroom apartment and on a fixed income, I was charged $614 for my water and sewer rates. I have no problem with the amount but what I disagree with, quite vehemently, is the fact that a house that may contain one to six (or more) people only pays approximately $75 more than I do.

Consequently, I am subsidizing those fortunate enough to live in a house versus those of us who live in apartments and especially those of us who live alone.

My water usage is a mere fraction of that of a family yet I am charged almost the same. The differential is completely unfair and I have addressed my concerns to both the mayor and the tax department with unsatisfactory responses.

It is, quite simply, unjust and unfair.
