The Editor,

Re. "Riverview Stories" (The Tri-City News).

Kudos to The Tri-City News for the informative and well-written series of stories on Riverview's history and importance to our community. The personal insights shared are invaluable for both educating newcomers and reminding longer term area residents of the unique gem we have in Riverview. Hats off to reporters Sarah Payne and Diane Strandberg.

Countless people drive along Lougheed Highway past the Riverview Hospital grounds each day but I'm sure relatively few have taken the time to see them first-hand. Hopefully, reading the stories about Riverview will pique people's interest to do so sooner rather than later.

Like many, I believe the Riverview lands should be preserved in the public domain but their future is uncertain. I would like to challenge people to have a look for themselves at the beautifully treed landscape surrounding the many heritage buildings on the 244-acre site. Free guided tree walks provided by the Riverview Horticultural Centre Society (www.rhcs.org) present an excellent opportunity for learning more about Riverview.

A Joni Mitchell song goes "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." Thanks for helping to make sure more people know what we've got - so we can keep it.
