The Editor,
Re: "Is cross-border shopping un-Canadian or understandable?" (Face to Face, The Tri-City News, Sept. 27).
I am with Face to Face columnist Jim Nelson. My love for my country shouldn't cost twice the price.
I am a regular cross-border shopper (at least two or three times a month). Not only is it a day of hugh savings and a nice lunch, it's a day out with a friend or family member.
I buy most of my clothing at Macy's - when they send me at least six coupons a month offering me $20 off a $50 purchase as well as 20% of entire purchase coupons, why wouldn't I? The store also offers a 10% discount card for all Canadian shoppers, not just ones with a Macy's card.
I find the selection in the United States to be better than in Canada. And you can find things you can't find here. The prices are so much better, it is worth the trip.
For example, my $99 retro bike was at a big store here for $150 and this past Christmas, I bought my great nieces a riding dune buggy in the U.S. for $150 when I could have paid $399 at the big box store here. So on two items, that is a savings of well over $300. And for savings like that, it is hard not to cross-border shop.
