Re: "More consultation ordered on Parkland" (The Tri-City News, June 12)

We have lived on Poirier Street since July 1959 and our five children attended Parkland.

We were so shocked to hear of School District 43's plans to sell off 1.26 acres for housing.

This school is used heavily for sports. Where are the children going to play?

As for the statement that a "thorough consultation" was done, I don't believe it. We never received a hand delivered letter (or any other kind) to inform us of their plans.

We only found out when it was all settled in April through an article in your paper. We are definitely against this plan. No school property should be sold off to try and balance their budget, which they should have seen was out of control.

If they can't do a better job of handling our money they should all resign immediately.

I am so glad that the parents at Porter Street elementary stood their ground and had those plans cancelled.

Now if only the parents of Parkland would do the same.
