Third Port Moody Evergreen Line station doesn't make sense

Re. "Group promotes 3rd station" (The Tri-City News, June 15).

A third station on the forthcoming Evergreen Line through Port Moody is undesirable for three reasons:

First, Metro Vancouver's regional growth plan advocates focusing population growth in designated centres. Development strung out along the transit corridor will not achieve this goal.

Second, the addition of stations erodes service for users. The time to slow down and stop, station dwell time, and acceleration back to track speed makes the service less attractive.

Third, a new station may make the proponents handsomely wealthy but offer little benefit to the public purse that has financed the transit line. The city of Port Moody must negotiate a fair sharing of the windfall property value appreciation prior to any deal on a third station.
