The Editor,

Re. "Piprell out as library director, city of Coq. seeks replacement" (The Tri-City News, May 17).

I am trying hard to understand the justification for the dismissal of Rhian Piprell as the director of the Coquitlam Public Library.

Under her auspices, the library has operated within the budgets agreed to by the library board, circulation (usage) has increased and a significant new library has been built.

Surely, by any measurements, Ms. Piprell has done a good job for the library users and the citizens of Coquitlam. It would seem that releasing a skilled, dedicated and valuable employee costs the community more than is gained.

It is incumbent on chair Jack Trumley and the rest of the library board to justify to the taxpayers of Coquitlam the inevitable and unnecessary expense of such a move. Additionally, an explanation is required as to how it will improve the library service in the city.
