Coach Casey Stoney says she is proud to take part in Canada Soccer's "Pride Celebration Match" against Costa Rica at Toronto's BMO Field on June 27.

"Obviously the life that I live and the identity that I have, I think it's very important," said Stoney, who has three kids with her partner Megan Harris, a former teammate with England's Lincoln Ladies. "I think it's important that we celebrate difference, diversity in all ways.

"And Canada is so diverse," added the former England captain. "That's an amazing thing about the country. So, for Canada to be able to celebrate this and take part in this evening is something I'm hugely proud of. It's definitely something we will be celebrating as a team, as a collective, as an organization.

"It's sad, to be honest, the state of things south of the border. It doesn't exactly make me a happy person, especially since I actually reside there at the moment."

Stoney and her family make their home in San Diego, where she coached the NWSL Wave prior to the Canada job.
