Three unanswered goals in the second period proved the difference as the Coquitlam Express beat the Victoria Grizzlies 6-3 in their BC Hockey League game Saturday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.

Danny Pearson, Drew Cooper and Gabriel Parent scored for the Express in the middle frame after the teams had exchanged goals in the first. Each side scored twice in the third period.

Cooper added a pair of assists to his goal to lead Coquitlam’s attack. Massimo Rizzo and Will Margel each had two point nights.

Joe Howe made 20 saves to earn his first win as a member of the Express, which acquired him from the Grizzlies in January.

The win keeps Coquitlam four points ahead of the Penticton Vees in the race for first place in the league standings. The Express has played one less game.

Coquitlam hits the road for three games this week before returning to play its last home game of the regular season, next Sunday at 7:15 p.m. against the Surrey Eagles.
