Coquitlam Express thump Chiefs

The Coquitlam Express regained a share of first place in the BC Hockey League’s Mainland Division when they defeated the Chilliwack Chiefs 5-1 Friday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.

The Coquitlam Express regained a share of first place in the BC Hockey League’s Mainland Division when they defeated the Chilliwack Chiefs 5-1 Friday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.

The Express and Chiefs each have 18 points, although Coquitlam’s played one more game.

Alex DiPaolo opened the scoring 1:52 into the game and the Express never looked back.

Dallas Farrell made it 2-0 less than four minutes later when he tipped a shot past Chiefs’ goalie Mathieu Caron.

Chilliwack halved Coquitlam’s advantage 8:07 into the second period but the Express regained their two goal lead when Chase Danol scored his seventh of the season on the power play.

Coquitlam iced the game with a dominant third period, scoring twice while outshooting the visitors 12-4.

DiPaolo and Regan Kimens each had two point nights for the Express, while goalie Kolby Matthews stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

The win was Coquitlam’s ninth of the season against five losses. They’ll host the Nanaimo Clippers on Sunday at 3 p.m.
