The Coquitlam Adanacs bounced back from a 14-6 loss in Victoria Friday to win their first home game of the Western Lacrosse Association season Saturday, 10-9 over the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

The weekend split leaves the Adanacs tied with New West and the Nanaimo Timbermen in the league standings. Each has one win and two losses.

Against New West, Dean Fairall’s third period goal was the difference for the Adanacs. It was also the final frame’s only goal, a marked contrast to the game’s first period when the sides combined for 12 goals.

The Salmonbellies emerged from that offensive frenzy with an 8-4 advantage, but five straight goals in the second period put Coquitlam in front 9-8.

Their lead was sort-lived. Less than a minute after Vinny Ricci’s go-ahead goal, the Salmonbellies’ Jakob Doucet tied it with an unassisted goal.

Fairall’s hat trick led all Coquitlam scorers. He also added an assist. Goalkeeper Dan Lewis stopped 36 of the 45 shots he faced.

The Adanacs next play on Saturday, when they host the Shamrocks at 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.
