The Coquitlam All-Stars will play Ontario in its semifinal Friday at the Canadian Little League championships in Ancaster, Ont.

The All-Stars will carry the momentum of an 8-4 win Thursday over the Prairies representative, from Moose Jaw, Sask. The game, which was originally rained out on Tuesday, was again delayed by an hour after another squall rolled through the area.

Coquitlam’s bats, which had been largely silenced in their 12-2 loss to Quebec on Wednesday, came alive quickly against the Prairies as Matthew Shanley hit his second homerun of the tournament, a two-run shot to the opposite field, to give the All-Stars a quick lead in the top of the first inning.

By the top of the fourth inning, Coquitlam was up 7-1 before Moose Jaw was able to get three of those runs back in their half of the frame. But that was as close as they got, as the All-Stars put one more run across the plate before the game ended in a light drizzle.

Coquitlam beat the Ontario team, which is from West Ottawa, 15-3, earlier in the tournament. The winner will play in Saturday’s final, with a chance to advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., beginning next week.
