The cold weather didn't cool off the Douglas College Royals, although it didn't help.
The men's soccer team wrapped up the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships last Saturday with a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Champlain St. Lambert Cavaliers in the bronze medal match.
Netminder Olivier Rouleau proved unbeatable over the 90 minutes, registering five saves, including turning back Douglas' Yianni Siafakas with a handful of minutes remaining in regulation.
The two teams were caught in a scoreless battle until the 82nd minute, when Hugo Defresne netted the game's lone goal.
The Royals outshot Chamblain 5-3 on the day.
It came on the heels of a 2-1 win for Douglas, with Benjamin Beaulieu's penalty kick proving to be the difference and catapulting the Royals into the bronze final.
Burhan Waisy had opened the scoring just 13 minutes into the contest, before Aziah Reid tied the game for Humber just before halftime. Netminder Felipe Domingos turned aside four shots in the win.
Earlier, the B.C. provincial champions rebounded from a heartbreaking opening loss by outlasting the Holland Hurricanes 4-3, with Taylor Richardson netting a pair. Also scoring were Joshua Penny and Benjamin Bergeron, with the winner in the 82nd minute.
Earning a spot on the tourney all-star team was forward Taylor Richardson, who produced two goals and one assist over the four games.
B.C.'s other team at the tournament, the Vancouver Island Mariners were edged 3-2 by the host Durham Lords in the championship final.
Durham had opened the tourney by upsetting Douglas 3-1.
