Express comeback not enough in loss to Rivermen

Cooper Connell scored a pair of goals in the third period to get the Coquitlam Express back on even terms against the Langley Rivermen in their BC Hockey League exhibition game, Wednesday at the George Preston Arena in Langley. But a goal by the Rivermen's Brian Scoville midway through the third period gave the home team a 5-4 win.

Goals by Cooper Connell 5:41 apart bookended another by Christian MacDougall to get the Express back on even terms in the third period after Langley had led 3-1 at the end of the second period. The Rivermen had then extended their advantage to 4-1 when Joseph Musa scored 46 seconds after the break.

Rookie hopeful Ryan Tattle scored Coquitlam’s other goal. It was his third in two games.

Thomas Wardle faced 30 shots in the Express net, while his teammates fired 35 at Rivermen keeper Kristian Lyon.

The Express wrap up the pre-season schedule on Saturday afternoon, with a game against the Nanaimo Clippers, 2 p.m., at the Sungod Arena in Delta.
