The Coquitlam Express never trailed against the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday, until it mattered most.

It was a tough result for the visitors, which had leads of 1-0 in the first period, 2-1 in the second and then 3-2 early in the final frame before the Wild pulled even for the third time in the game with 10:22 remaining in regulation time.

Drew Cooper, Cooper Connell and Adam Trotman scored for the Express, which lost for only the eighth time in the season. Clay Stevenson stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced, while his teammates fired 36 shots at Wenatchee goalie Noah Altman.

Coquitlam still has a four-point advantage over the Penticton Vees in the race for top position in the BC Hockey League standings despite playing one less game.

The Express will be in Port Alberni for a game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Tuesday.
