The Heritage Woods Kodiaks have recorded the first big upset of the BC high school senior boys AAAA basketball championships in Langley.

The Kodiaks, seeded 15th, defeated the Kitsilano Blue Demons, who were the tournament’s second seed, 81-68, Wednesday morning at the Langley Events Centre.

The Kodiaks were led by Zach Hamed’s 25 points while Arshia Movassaghi netted 24.

Heritage Woods never trailed in the game. They led 22-16 after the first quarter and extended that to 39-32 at halftime.

The Blue Demons, who came into the tournament as Lower Mainland champions, outscored the Kodiaks 25-19 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late.

Heritage Woods will next play the Kelowna Owls in the quarter-final, Thursday at 4:45 p.m., at the LEC.
