Local teams mine gold at holiday hockey tournaments

Mantles and trophy shelves around the Tri-Cities are a little more crowded after a successful holiday hockey tournament season for several local teams.

Mantles and trophy shelves around the Tri-Cities are a little more crowded after a successful holiday hockey tournament season for several local teams.

The Port Coquitlam Atom C1 Vipers won the Atom B pool at the 34th annual PoCo Winter Classic tournament that was held Dec. 27 to 31 at the new PoCo Community Centre.

PoCo Atom A1 also won the Tier 2 championship at the Port Moody Holiday Classic Atom tournament and the Pirates PeeWee A2 team prevailed at the Ridge Meadows Hometown Heroes tournament.

Coquitlam C1 took the gold medal at its own Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association Bantam C tournament that wrapped up Jan. 5, while the Midget C1 team finished atop a tournament in Summerland, defeating Delta, 5-4, in the final. The Coquitlam Midget C5 team also won gold at the Vancouver Minor Hockey Association’s 14th annual Canuck Place tournament at Burnaby 8-Rinks.

Port Moody PeeWee C2 won gold at the Ice Crusher tournament put on by Cloverdale Minor Hockey, and Port Moody Atom C2 finished atop the Atom C New Year’s tournament in North Vancouver.
