Chuck Provost may not be able to teach old dogs new tricks. But if those dogs want to get through another season of the Tri-Cities Oldtimers Hockey League, they better be prepared to work hard on their fundamentals like stretching, skating, passing and shooting.

That’s the reasoning behind a couple dozen of the league’s players, who range in age from 60 to 75, lacing up their skates for hockey camp last week at Planet Ice in Coquitlam.

Provost, one of the camp’s coaches, said as players get older, getting over the off-season gets tougher. But their enthusiasm never diminishes.

“It’s fun to be young again,” he said.

The camp has launched the league’s season for several years and culminates with scrimmages involving several alumni from the Vancouver Canucks. Money collected from surplus fees and the celebration that follows the camp goes to Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
