Polisi brothers on top for SFU

Marcello and Matteo Polisi both took honours in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as they helped lead the SFU Clan men's soccer team to the conference championship.

Coquitlam’s Marcello Polisi is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer player of the year.

The SFU Clan freshman who redshirted last year after he had graduated from Dr. Charles Best secondary, played in all 17 of the Clan’s games and scored only one goal and an assist, but he was recognized for his domination of the midfield and orchestration of the team’s attack that led them to a second straight conference championship.

Polisi’s younger brother, Matteo, who joined the Clan this season, was named the GNAC’s freshman of the year. He scored 10 goals and added four assists in 17 games. He also led the league with five game-winning goals.

Both Polisi brothers were also named to the GNAC’s first all-star team, along with fellow Best grade Adam Jones, who missed the latter part of the season because of injury.

Another Best grad, Kyle Jones, and Coquitam’s Michael North were named to the second all-star team.
