Port Moody paddler making rapid ascent

Port Moody paddler Finn Wakeling is making waves. The 14-year-old Gleneagle secondary school student recently qualified for Canoe Kayak Canada’s junior national team in C1 slalom whitewater paddling.

Port Moody paddler Finn Wakeling is making waves.

The 14-year-old Gleneagle secondary school student recently qualified for Canoe Kayak Canada’s junior national team in C1 slalom whitewater paddling.

Wakeling, achieved the race time required for the event for both the national junior and U23 teams at the Canadian team trials in Oklahoma City, Ok., April 12-14, where he was the youngest competitor. His results included first place  finishes in two of his four heats in the C1 whitewater races.

Wakeling will train with the Canadian junior and U23 national teams in Europe from mid-June to mid-July, and he’ll compete at the junior canoe slalom world championships that are being held in Krakow, Poland, July 16-21.
