The Archbishop Carney Stars finished second in the BC Secondary Schools Soccer Association AA provincial final at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West.

The stars lost the championship match, 2-0, to the reigning title holder, Langley Fundamental Trojans, in the cold and rain Wednesday. The Trojans scored both their goals in the first half and Carney was unable to equalize.

The Stars opened the 16-team tournament with a 1-0 win over Windsor then followed that up with a 2-0 victory over St. Michael’s University School.

With first place in their pool already a certainty, Carney then lost to Kalamalka 1-0 in their final match of the preliminary round.

The Stars beat Langley 4-3 in the semi-final.

Carney’s second place result is an improvement on the fourth place the team achieved in the 2017 championship.
