Totems stand atop Top-10 tournament

The Semiahmoo Totems lived up to its top ranking in B.C. high school girls basketball by winning the 31st annual Top Ten Shootout tournament at Centennial secondary in Coquitlam.

The Totems defeated Port Coquitlam’s Riverside Rapids, 98-69, in Saturday’s final.

In fact, the 29-point margin in the championship was the smallest in all of the Totems’ games. Semiahmoo outscored its four opponents by 181 points.

The Terry Fox Ravens finished fifth in the nine-team tournament that featured five of the top ten ranked AAAA teams in the province, as well as the second-ranked AAA team, the Abbotsford Panthers, and the top AA side, Langley Christian.

Totems’ guard Tara Wallack was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Riverside’s Sammy Shields and Terry Fox Ravens’ guard Cerys Merton were both named first team all-stars, along with Semiahmoo’s Izzy Forsyth, Abbotsford’s Marin Lenz and Makenna Gardner from Langley Christian.
