The Coquitlam Metro-Ford U13 girls soccer team celebrates their provincial Premier Cup championship last weekend in Victoria.

It was a happy ferry ride home from Vancouver Island for the Coquitlam Metro-Ford U13 girls soccer team.

Of three CMFSC teams that played for provincial youth cup championships last weekend, the U13 girls squad was the only one boarding the boat with the extra baggage of a trophy after they defeated Surrey United 4-0 in the final.

Kaitlyn Johnson scored the game’s first two goals. Both came off crosses from Kiera Scott. Tara Krsmanovic added a third goal before half time.

Johnson then completed the hat trick after the break when she headed home a pass from Sarah Caravatta.

Johnson was also named the game’s most valuable player.

The provincial title is the icing on the cake of an undefeated season for the team, which is coached by Esteban Mora. They finished atop the BC Soccer Premier League table with 10 wins and four draws and scored 47 goals while conceding only 14.

The trip to Victoria wasn’t quite so successful for the other CMFSC teams that reached their finals. The U15 girls lost to Mountain United and the U17 boys were defeated by Surrey United, 2-0, in their final.
