Since it first opened in Coquitlam in 1996, Sun Star Restaurant has been serving guests quintessential Chinese dishes including Sweet ‘n Sour Pork, Pan Fried Rice Noodles with Beef, and Seafood Vermicelli. Other favorites include the Roast Turkey Sandwich and the Soup of the Day. The eatery is also known for their breakfasts, which include omelettes, pancakes and eggs benedict.

Sue has been serving guests at the restaurant since it opened in 1996. Since that time she has seen a few things change while much remains the same. “Ed’s Breakfast”, which includes two eggs, hash browns, toast, two sausages and a pancake, is still as popular as it was when the restaurant first opened. The prices have changed a bit, though (back in 1996 some breakfast dishes used to be just $1.99!).

Sue says the restaurant makes people feel very comfortable, like they are right at home.

Over the years Sue has seen many generations of families dine at the restaurant. “A lot of kids I served are now grown adults which kind of freaks me out,” Sue says with a laugh. Some will even get up and help her serve if she seems busy. The restaurant is a popular gathering for sports’ teams (“we had a curling club come in and take up the resto,” Sue explains).

Sue says what has kept her at the restaurant for so many years are the customers and the familiarity she has with them. “It’s definitely the customers, it’s all about the customers,” Sue says.
