The Foundation hopes to raise funds for Eagle Ridge Hospital’s emergency department expansion.

Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation is in the final push of its fundraising campaign and is calling on the community to help get them over the finish line.

The Foundation hopes to raise the last $500,000 towards its $5-million campaign goal to help expand Eagle Ridge Hospital’s emergency department.

“Our emergency department has reached a crucial stage; the infrastructure, medical equipment and technology are aging and cannot meet current and projected demand,” says Dr. Ali Abdalvand, emergency physician and department head at Eagle Ridge Hospital.

“Add to this the evolving world of infectious disease and an increase in very young or elderly patients with unique needs, and we have a crisis.”

The global COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for quality medical care, close to home.

“Frankly, our emergency department is no longer an ideal space to care for our most critically ill – and, at any moment, any one of us who call the Tri-Cities home could need emergency care,” Dr. Abdalvand says.

The planned expansion allows the hospital to meet the ever-changing needs of the over 53,000 patients who come through Eagle Ridge’s emergency department doors annually.

Transformation plans include a department that is three times the current size, building of three waiting areas with dedicated space for children and families, four spaces to safely contain infectious diseases, two resuscitation rooms, and increasing treatment spaces from 19 to 39.

“We need the community behind us. We need their help to finish this campaign,” says the Foundation’s Executive Director Charlene Giovannetti-King.

“Now is your chance to support our community hospital. This expansion is a game-changer for all of us, and we need to all come together to improve health care for ourselves, our families, friends and neighbours.”

Donations of any size, small or large, will make a difference. To help boost individual donations, Coquitlam-based Spraggs Law has pledged to match individual contributions up to $20,000.
