WINNIPEG — Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has again declared a provincewide state of emergency as renewed wildfires force thousands out of their homes, some for the second time in just weeks.
Kinews says the call, the second one since late May, is critical to rally resources and to underscore the seriousness of what has been one of the worst fire seasons in years in Manitoba.
The announcement comes as Garden Hill First Nation, a fly-in community with a population of more than 3,000, ordered everyone out ahead of an out-of-control fire.
The town of Snow Lake has also issued a mandatory evacuation order for its 1,000 residents, the second time this season they have told to leave.
The 600 residents in Lynn Lake have already been ordered to flee for the second time this season.
