Those seeking public office should be required, by law, to serve out their term, and should not be allowed to seek another office, simply out of opportunism, writes this Port Coquitlam resident.

The Editor,

Re: Coquitlam council officially grants a leave to Zarrillo (Sept. 8, 2021)

Those seeking public office should be required, by law, to serve out their term, and should not be allowed to seek another office, simply out of opportunism.

Elected officials have a social contract with their electorate, not only to represent their views, but to continue to do so throughout their term of office.

To do otherwise is a breach of that contract for no other reason than self-aggrandizement.
