An employee at the Real Canadian Superstore in the heart of Coquitlam has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The chain’s parent company, Loblaw Companies Ltd., listed an exposure notification Wednesday, Dec. 16, noting the employee last worked at the store Dec. 12.

It’s not clear if anyone else at the store — worker or customer — was exposed to the infected staff member. This is at least the second time the Westwood Mall Real Canadian Superstore has been hit with COVID-19.

As the largest food retailer in Canada, Loblaw oversees a large portfolio of brands in addition to Real Canadian Superstore, including T&T Supermarket, nofrills and Shoppers Drug Mart, among others.

The only other Real Canadian Superstore in the Tri-Cities, located at 1301 Lougheed Highway, was flagged for an earlier exposure Dec. 2 for a Nov. 24 exposure.

Several of Loblaw’s other Tri-City locations have been flagged for positive COVID-19 cases among their workers, including Dennis’ No Frills, a Shoppers Drug Mart at 3025 Lougheed Highway, as well as multiple exposures at the Coquitlam Centre T&T Supermarket — the latter of which shut it’s doors for several days earlier this month following at least four cases among its workers in just over a week in what the store’s CEO described as an “unsettling” virus situation.

There are currently 20 Loblaw stores across B.C. with active exposure notifications.
