The Burquitlam Safeway, located at 580 Clarke Road, recently had a worker test positive for the coronavirus, triggering an exposure notification.

An employee at a Coquitlam Safeway has tested positive for the coronavirus.

That’s according to the grocery chain’s parent company, Sobeys Inc., which issued an exposure notification for its 580 Clarke Road location on Christmas Day.

The company indicated the worker last worked at the store Dec. 22.

It’s not clear if any other staff or members of the public were exposed to the individual at the store's Burquitlam location.

There are eight Safeway stores across B.C. currently dealing with an active COVID-19 exposure.

Workers at grocery stores across the Tri-Cities have tested positive across several locations in recent weeks. One of the latest was identified at the Real Canadian Superstore at 3000 Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam.

There, two staff tested positive for COVID-19, having last worked on Dec. 18 and Dec. 24, respectively.
