FIRST PLACE: 11-14 YEARS The Howling Sofia Pareja, 12, Port Coquitlam It started with the howling. The sound was quiet at first, just some noise in the background of the radio or the TV. No one noticed it much.

SECOND PLACE: 15-18 Doors Claire Zhang, 17, Port Moody Find me. A voice, so gentle that it could only be deadly, engulfs me. I see nothing but the endless black fog of the night. I feel nothing but the crunching of autumn leaves under my boots.

THIRD PLACE: 11-14 Untitled Hailey Stewart, 13, Port Coquitlam The soft, compressed dirt cushioned Adalee’s feet as they propelled her through the towering cornstalks. The wind rustled the stalks as she ran through them.

THIRD PLACE: 15-18 Welcome Back Shanza Usmani, 16, Coquitlam The tents, painted blinding hues of yellow and red, were beginning to fade. Rusty carts of rotting candy floss and teeth decaying treats line the rugged street.
