An inch forward in Tri-Cities' two-dose COVID-19 vaccinations helps with dip in case, positivity rates

At a steady pace, the Tri-Cities is nearing 90 per cent in terms of fully-vaxxed eligible residents but the virus continues to hover around pockets across the region.

New BC Centre for Disease Control data for Oct. 26-Nov. 1, 2021, breaks down the Tri-Cities into five neighbourhoods for more detailed information: North Coquitlam, Southwest Coquitlam, Southeast Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody-Anmore-Belcarra.

COVID-19 remains a concern in several parts of the Tri-Cities whether it's in schools, the workplace or in public spaces.

However, it appears the virus' rate of positivity in the region is starting to decline thanks in part to an uptick in vaccinations.

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) says double vaccinations among eligible residents aged 12 years and older increased to an 88 per cent average between Oct. 26 and Nov. 1 — a bump of one per cent compared to the previous week.

The new data accounts for vaccination rates for Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra.

The Tri-Cities' single-dose vaccination rate against COVID-19 remains at a 91 per cent average after no movement in the latest BCCDC report.

On the other side of the spectrum, the region's overall positivity rate for the virus has also decreased for the first time in several weeks.

It now averages an even two per cent, which represents a more than 0.5 per cent drop compared to the previous week (2.6 per cent).

VACCINE CLINICS

Tri-City residents still looking for a vaccine against COVID-19 — a third dose if they're immuno-compromised — can walk up to one of two pop-up clinics this week to receive a jab.

Fraser Health is set up inside the Poirier Administration Building today (Nov. 3) and Sunday (Nov. 7) from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

With no appointment needed, the Coquitlam facility — located at 640 Poirier St. — is welcoming eligible people aged 12 years and older as capacity and supplies allow.
