Coquitlam NHLer Dante Fabbro will remain a Nashville Predator — at least for another year.

Fabbro has signed a one-year contract to remain with the team that selected him 17th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft.

The deal is worth $2.5 million. Tthe 25-year-old defenseman signed a similar contract a year ago. He is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

Fabbro has 71 points in 306 career games with the Predators.

He has two goals and 10 assists in 53 games this season. But in November and December, he’d been scratched from the team’s lineup by head coach Andrew Brunette and was the subject of trade rumours.

“I try not to think about it,” Fabbro told the Tennessean. “I’m with the Preds and my focus is with the Preds and it always has been with the Preds.”

Kent Johnson undergoes successful surgery

Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced Port Moody’s Kent Johnson underwent successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder last Thursday, March 7.

“Johnson is expected to make a full recovery in six months,” said the team in a social media post.

Johnson, who’s in his second full season with the Blue Jackets after the team picked him fifth overall in the 2021 NHL draft, injured his shoulder in a game against the New York Rangers on Feb. 28.

The 21-year-old forward scored six goals and added 10 assists in 42 games this season.
