Coquitlam police operation linked to shooting in Abbotsford

Police prepare to tow a vehicle from a Robinson Street home after it was believed involved in a shooting in Abbotsford Saturday evening.

A major police response in Coquitlam Saturday night resulted in the arrest of suspects believed to be connected to a robbery and shooting in Abbotsford earlier in the evening.-

According to Abbotsford police, officers responded to a reported robbery in the 3600 block of Townline Road shortly after 7 p.m. When they arrived, they found a lone male suffering from a gunshot wound. 

He was transported to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Meanwhile, with the help of the RCMP Air 1 helicopter and police from other jurisdictions, the victim’s car was tracked and located in Coquitlam’s Austin Heights neighbourhood.

Witness reports posted on Reddit aid more than a dozen cruisers, including K9 units, were at a home on Robinson Street with Air 1 circling overhead.

“Heard the dogs barking and police yelling, ‘get on the ground,’” said one.

Another reported two vehicles had been towed from the scene and officers were canvassing neighbours for security camera video.

In a news release, Abbotsford police  said, “the parties believed to be responsible have been arrested. There is believed to be no risk to the public.”

The release didn’t say how many suspects were arrested or what charges were being laid.
