Coquitlam RCMP is calling on the public for witnesses and dash-cam footage after an 80-year-old pedestrian was hit by a pick-up truck and sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries over the weekend.

The incident occurred Saturday, Dec. 5, just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Falcon Drive and Harrier Drive when a black GMC pick-up truck tried to make a left turn.

“The male pedestrian was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital and remains in serious condition,” wrote Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Const. Deanna Law in a press release.

Police say early evidence indicates neither speed nor driver impairment contributed to the accident. The driver of the truck is also said to be cooperating with the investigation.

“We are reminding drivers to proceed with caution when approaching pedestrian crosswalks as visibility can be extremely poor due to changing weather conditions at this time of year,” added Const. Law.

As police officers continue to gather witness statements and video, they’re asking any eyewitnesses or those with video of the incident to contact Coquitlam RCMP’s non-emergency number at 604-945-1550. Ask to speak with the Traffic Unit and quote file number 2020-32759.
