A Coquitlam woman woke up early Wednesday (June 8) to two molotov cocktails thrown at her car.

In footage taken at the scene, a line of flames could be seen under the vehicle and burning the rear of the car.

Coquitlam RCMP are now investigating what they are calling an act of "mischief" in the residential neighbourhood of Dunlop Street and Sunset Avenue in the southwest corner of Coquitlam.

"Thankfully, no persons were injured and damage was relatively minimal," said Const. John Graham.

However he told the Tri-City News the fire could have been much worse if both bottles of flammable liquid were set on fire.

The one that didn't break has been collected as evidence, including finger-printing, Const. Graham said.

He told the Tri-City News that police believe this is an "isolated and uncommon incident."

According to the victim, the fire woke her up at 3:36 a.m. and she posted a video of the burning vehicle on social media.

"My camera caught the fire but whomever did it avoided the cameras and is not seen.," she posted.

Most of the damage was contained to the bumper and the under carriage of the vehicle, the victim told the Tri-City News.

Anyone with information into this criminal act is asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2022-14295.

"This unacceptable incident remains under investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP," Const. Graham further noted in an email to the Tri-City News.
