DJs, dancing and drag: Where to go in the Tri-Cities on New Year's Eve

You can sing karaoke, mark New Year's British-style or see the confetti cannons fire at venues in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody on Dec. 31, 2023.

If you’re looking to swing in 2024 in your top hat and with a glass full of bubbly, there are several places in the Tri-Cities to party the night away.

Here’s our picks to be on New Year’s Eve:

COQUITLAM

Evergreen Cultural Centre

Classical musicians Reg Quiring and Rosemary O’Connor are back at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) for their 16th annual Dec. 31 concert called QuiRing in the New Year.

The show, which will be followed by a sparkling wine reception, will also feature the talents of Jae-Won Bang, first violinist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra; Jonathan Lo, cellist with the Capilano Quartet, Vancouver Opera and VSO; Coquitlam Youth Orchestra conductor and violinist Lucia Roh; and Barbara Irschick on viola.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the compositions "Marchenbilder for Viola and Piano Opus 113" by Robert Schumann; "Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat Major, D. 898," by Franz Schubert; and the "String Quintet in D-major No. 5, K. 593," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Great Canadian Casino Vancouver

The Eagles tribute band Take It To the Limit headlines a concert at The Show Theatre at the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver (2080 United Blvd.) at 9:30 p.m. with Blue Bayou, a Linda Ronstadt tribute artist, opening.

The performance is organized by Moon Coin Productions. Tickets are via ticketmaster.ca.

 

John B

All That Glitters is the title of the party at the John B Pub (1000 Austin Ave.), where a $30 ticket gets you a drink and party favours at midnight.

Generation Studio

It’s a Salsa Smile party for New Year’s Eve at Generation Studio (108-2922 Glen Dr.), where there will be a countdown and toast with sparkling wine at midnight.

DJ Ben will spin Latin beats from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Entry is $15 in advance by emailing [email protected] or $20 cash at the door.

 

 

PORT COQUITLAM

Gillnetter

Matt McCourt entertains at a New Year’s Party at the Gillnetter Pub (1864 Argue St.).

The event, which runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m., with doors closing at 10 p.m., will include a New York-style countdown at 9 p.m. with sparkling wine. To reserve a seat, email [email protected] or call 604-941-5599.

 

Patina

Head to the mic for a karaoke sing-along at this brewhouse (2332 Marpole Ave.) from 7 to 10 p.m. and, at 9 p.m., ring in the Eastern time zone New Year’s.

The Bennett

Eat, dance and be merry at The Bennett Craft & Kitchen (2099 Lougheed Hwy.) where the six-piece cover band The Limit will rock the house.

The Arms

Sally and The Melo Hearts performs at The Arms Pub (3261 Coast Meridian Rd.) at 8:30 p.m., where there’s a party starting at 7 p.m. — and a prime rib dinner for $18.95.

PORT MOODY

Royal Canadian Legion

Celebrate 2024 with the Brits! The legion branch 119 (2529 Clarke St.) hosts a UK New Year’s party at 4 p.m. — midnight in the United Kingdom.

The doors open at 1 p.m. for the all-ages bash, which includes a selection of British fare, a live band and piper; the festivities end at 5 p.m. To reserve seats, call 604-492-1820.

Livelyhood

There’s no cost to get into the New Year’s Eve party at Livelyhood (3224 St. Johns St.), which has its fifth annual Timeless party starting at 9:30 p.m.

Brewers Row

It’s a Brew Year’s Eve at Moody Ales & Co (2601 Murray St.) where 19+ visitors can enjoy craft suds, mulled wine or special cocktails from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.; no tickets are required.

Meanwhile, doors open at 8 p.m. for the New Year’s Eve Extravaganza at Parkside Brewery (2731 Murray St.), which will feature DJ tunes, drinks, dancing and drag entertainment from the Sparkling Scarlett Rose; tickets are $50 via theparksidebrewery.com.

Twin Sails (2821 Murray St.) is open from noon to 6 p.m. while Yellow Dog (1-2817 Murray St.) operates from noon to 7 p.m. on Dec. 31.
