Employee at Port Coquitlam Safeway tests positive for COVID-19

Exposure case is the first for a Tri-City Safeway for 2021

An employee at the Port Coquitlam Safeway on Shaughnessy St. tested positive for COVID-19, according to Sobeys Inc.

An employee at a Port Coquitlam Safeway has tested positive for the coronavirus. 

That’s according to the grocery chain’s parent company, Sobeys Inc., which issued an exposure notification for its 2850 Shaughnessy St. location on Jan. 16.

The company indicated the worker last worked at the store Friday, Jan. 8.

This is the first local case for the grocery store chain for 2021. The last Tri-City exposure at a Safeway was before Christmas.

According to the company at the time, an employee tested positive at 580 Clarke Road in Coquitlam on Dec.22.

There are currently 12 B.C. stores listed on the company’s website with exposure dates, including stores in Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond and Vancouver.
