Take Five Café is opening in the former Starbucks coffee shop space in downtown Port Coquitlam.

A Vancouver-based café franchise is moving into the former Starbucks coffee shop in downtown Port Coquitlam.

The space was emptied by the popular Seattle franchise in January as part of a down-sizing and re-focusing of the American coffee company.

Now, with Take Five Café opening in the space next to PoCo’s city hall, coffee drinkers will have another café to meet, mingle and enjoy coffee beverages in the city, in addition to Waves Coffee House nearby.

It’s expected a coffee shop next to city hall will help to revitalize the civic centre precinct that is slated for re-development with plans to renovate Veterans Park, Leigh Square and extend the Donald Pathway.

The city is also upgrading nearby McAllister Avenue for more pedestrian-friendly activity.

Mayor Brad West was among the first to announce the new coffee shop.

“Looking forward to welcoming Take Five Café to downtown Port Coquitlam at the former Starbucks site. I know many residents were wondering what would be in the space…and now you know!” West stated on his Facebook page.

Take Five Café is a Vancouver-based company started by two brothers and since 2003, they've grown to include several different locations in Metro Vancouver.
