End-of-summer show a second homecoming for Port Moody musician

Michaela Slinger performed in her hometown for the first time ever in 2021. She's putting a set-list together for her return to Rocky Point Spirits on Aug. 28.

It's been a busy summer for Michaela Slinger.

But even though her travels may have been tiresome, the Port Moody singer and musician is finding the time in her schedule to showcase new material to local residents, fans and music lovers alike.

The 25-year-old will take the outdoor stage at Rocky Point Spirits on Aug. 28 with a set-list that will include the hometown debut of her latest single 'Just This Once.'

Since its mid-June release, the song has garnered nearly 10,000 listens on Spotify — it recorded almost 1,000 in the first 48 hours.

"I'm thrilled to play at Rocky Point Spirits again," says Slinger in a release sent to the Tri-City News. This will be the second live show for Slinger in the city she grew up in and fell in love with music.

"My band and I have had a full summer of festivals, and our show will feel extra special at home."

Slinger became a self-proclaimed "certified gig girl" this summer.

And rightfully so as the Heritage Woods Secondary alumna performed on seven different stages this summer so far, with three more shows on the docket before the end of August including her Port Moody appearance.

This included Vancouver's Khatsalano Street Fest and Celebration of Light, the Fliberg Festival and Laketown Shakedown on Vancouver Island and the NXNE showcase in Toronto.

'Just This Once' and other songs off Slinger's new upcoming EP with 604 Records, due for release in spring 2023, will be played at Rocky Point Spirits.

Owner and operator Carlos de Ibarrola call the decision to bring Slinger back for a second show was a "no-brainer" and it could become an annual event.

"After the memorable event she put on last year, myself and my staff are looking forward to hosting Michaela and her fans again on our beautiful back patio."

The afternoon show will also include handcrafted cocktails and a taco food truck for patrons.

Meanwhile, Slinger's next show is in Abbotsford for Field Day Fest on Saturday (Aug. 20) before heading to Vancouver once more for SoFar Sounds on Aug. 27.
