A special West Coast Express train will help Tri-Cities residents get to and from the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday (April 16).

The 2023 Vancouver Sun Run is set for this Sunday (April 16).

As part of efforts to reduce traffic, TransLink is set to add extra services to and from the Tri-Cities in encouraging local participants to utilize transit to get downtown.

This will include an additional West Coast Express train for the morning and afternoon, spokesperson Dan Mountain told the Tri-City News.

It's scheduled to roll out of Mission at 7 a.m., and arrive at Port Coquitlam Station by 7:29 a.m. before reaching Coquitlam Central and Moody Centre afterwards.

After the Sun Run, Mountain said the eastbound train will leave Waterfront Station at 1 p.m. and will stop in Port Moody by 1:24 p.m.

As well, SkyTrains will be running in and out of the Tri-Cities on a Sunday schedule.

This means the first train will leave Lafarge Lake-Douglas (Coquitlam) just before 7 a.m. and the last will arrive at 12:23 a.m. the next day.

"TransLink is proud to provide this additional service to help Tri-Cities residents get to and from the Sun Run via transit," said Mountain.

The Vancouver Sun Run is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Burrard and Georgia streets.

The update comes the week before TransLink is switching to its spring services.
