A charitable group in Port Coquitlam pocketed $10,000 from football fans this month.

The Port Coquitlam Community Foundation received the cash from The Arms Pub and its patrons through their annual Monday Night Football Pool at the Coast Meridian Road establishment.

The Arms’ motto is to “give where you live” and has supported a number of nonprofits over the years.

Anna Wilczewski, executive director of the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation, said donations to the philanthropic group are welcome.

Started in 2012, the foundation, which is part of the national Community Foundations’ network, has handed out nearly $2 million in grants and bursaries to PoCo residents and organizations.

It works with partners to create permanent endowment funds to benefit Port Coquitlam.

“Community foundations allow citizens to give back to their local communities in a way that builds a sustainable source of funding,” Wilczewski said in a news release.
