Zellers closed in Coquitlam Centre mall a decade ago. Now Hudson's Bay Company wants to bring back the iconic brand.

Zellers will relaunch in four B.C. locations this spring.

Hudson's Bay announced that it will bring back the iconic brand in both brick-and-mortar stores and through an e-commerce website.

While shoppers nostalgic for low prices for clothes and housewares will be looking forward to the new addition, the Coquitlam Hudson's Bay store is not on the list.

Stores that will have Zellers brands include Hudson's Bay stores in:

  • Hudson's Bay, downtown Vancouver
  • Aberdeen Mall, Kamloops
  • Guildford Town Centre, Surrey
  • 7 Oaks Shopping Centre, Abbotsford

The Tri-City News has reached out to the company to find out if Coquitlam will be in a future wave of boutique store openings.

The four B.C. locations are among 25 Zellers stores opening in Hudson's Bay stores across Canada.

While a new Zellers.ca e-commerce website is not currently live, you can sign up for updates.

In a press release, Hudson's Bay said shoppers will find the Zellers brands within an 8,000 to 10,000 sq. ft. section of the store.

"Customers will be greeted with a thoughtful selection of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel and pets, housed within Zellers' signature red and white that will guide customers along in their retail journey."

Last year, Hudson's Bay announced it would relaunch the discount retailer, offering a "digital-first shopping journey that taps into the nostalgia of the brand," the company said.

“We know how special Zellers is in the hearts and minds of people in Canada," said Adam Powell, Zellers' chief business officer.

“Zellers is a brand deeply rooted in the Canadian experience."

The return of Zellers comes as soaring inflation drives consumers to discount retailers in search of lower prices and fierce competition from existing stores like Walmart and Dollarama.
