Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti.

The Christmas season is about family, friends and fellowship. It’s also about food — from grand feasts of turkey and stuffing to boundless snacks stretching our belts.

In the spirit of the holidays, the Tri-City News recently asked some of the people you read about to share their favourite must-try recipes.

Use regular pastry.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground park
  • ½ lb. ground beef
  • One (1) cup water
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • ¼ cup finely chopped celery
  • One (1) clove of garlic
  • ½ tsp. salt and savoury
  • ¼ tsp. pepper
  • ½ tsp. rosemary
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg
  • One (1) bay leaf
  • ¼ cup oats

Directions

Combine beef, pork and water.

Bring to a boil, stirring often.

Add the rest of the ingredients, except the oats and simmer for 1 ¼ hours, covered.

Make sure it is a soupy consistency and, if necessary, add water.

Add oats and cook for three minutes.

Let cool to lukewarm.

Line pastry and fill with meat mixture.

Top with egg wash and bake for 30-35 minutes.
