Man arrested for allegedly wielding knife near Port Coquitlam school

Terry Fox Secondary went into a brief hold-and-secure, and there's no risk to public safety.

A man has been arrested after he was allegedly seen with a knife near Terry Fox Secondary.

Around 1:30 p.m. today (March 30), students at the Port Coquitlam high school were told to shelter after RCMP received reports of an individual wielding a knife near the property.

Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law confirms to the Tri-City News police located a man who fit the report's description, and took him into custody.

Officers found the knife in some bushes near Terry Fox Secondary, which was placed under a hold-and-secure that lasted six minutes.

"The first thing we do when a report like this is given to us is lock down the school to ensure everyone's safety," Law adds.

There's no threat to public safety, she confirms, and the investigation remains in its early stages.

Terry Fox Secondary is also currently hosting a sizable film crew for an upcoming teen movie for Disney+, which utilized the School District 43 (SD43) institution during spring break.
