A safe was picked up by RCMP on Aug. 15, 2022, in Port Coquitlam's Mary Hill neighbourhood. Is it yours?

We've heard of missing cash being found and sent to local police to ensure the money gets to the rightful owner.

But how often do we hear about someone finding an actual piggy bank on the side of the road?

That's what happened in Port Coquitlam this week as RCMP confirm to the Tri-City News officers retrieved, what appears to be, a large-sized home safe.

Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law said it was located in the Mary Hill neighbourhood on Monday (Aug. 15).

A social media post claims the safe was seen in an alley near Robert Hope Park — located off Lamprey Road south of École Mary Hill Elementary.

A photo submitted to the Tri-City News of the alleged box shows a dusty black safe with a silver door.

"Police will be opening it to verify if there are any contents," Law said.

She said no other details are being released at this time as the safe is still being examined by investigators.

Mounties have yet to make a public call for the item's rightful owner.
