More summer movies on the Tri-Cities marquee. Here's what, where and when

Port Moody and Coquitlam are planning to show award-winning films before season's end, outdoors and indoors.

Dozens of Port Coquitlam residents watched Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and friends conquer a virtual version of Jumanji last weekend on a 40-foot outdoor screen in Lions Park.

The gathering was the first of what will be three Cinema Under the Stars showings, with the next two slated for Aug. 20 and 26.

Now, it appears both Port Moody and Coquitlam are set to offer some summer screenings this month in hopes of uniting their communities, too.

Port Moody

Port Moody–Coquitlam MLA Rick Glumac has announced a free outdoor movie night next Friday (Aug. 11).

The event will be playing the 2005 animated flick Madagascar on a big screen at the amphitheatre behind the Inlet Theatre and Galleria (100 Newport Dr.).

The award-winning DreamWorks movie is voiced by Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer and Cedric the Entertainer.

Glumac was the lead of its visual effects team that received an Annie nomination in 2006. The Annies recognize excellence in TV and movie animation each year.

Free popcorn will also be available for interested residents, who are also asked to bring their own outdoor chairs.

"Movie Night with Rick Glumac" will take place Aug. 11 starting at 8 p.m., and you can visit its Eventbrite page for more information.

Coquitlam

Meanwhile, Coquitlam is set to host a series of indoor movie viewings for adults aged 19 and older at Glen Pine Pavilion (1200 Glen Pine Court).

"Friday Flicks," "Saturday Movies" and "Movie Encores" will show films of the past and present in hopes of offering something for all looking for a summer activity with family and friends.
