The Tri-City News took home silver for general excellence at the 2022 Ma Murray Awards this past weekend.

The gala event recognized the contributions of dozens of publications that belong to the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Association (BCYCNA).

In addition, Tri-City News photographer Mario Bartel took home bronze in the Sports Photo category for an action shot taken during the Fraser North Zone senior boys high school soccer playoffs last November.

The annual competition recognizes the best writing, photography, advertising, digital coverage and community contributions from nearly 100 publications.

It’s the third consecutive year the Tri-City News has been among the three finalists for a general excellence award.

The Ma Murrays are named for the late newspaper pioneer Margaret “Ma” Murray who was a co-founder and editor of several newspapers in B.C.

She and her husband, George, maintained a home in Anmore they built in 1916, but it was torn down 2017.
